Concordia University is seeking candidates who are passionate about building relationships with donors and raising funds, to fill the position of Advancement Officer, a member of our Institutional Advancement team.

Position Summary:  The Advancement Officer is a member of the Advancement staff in the office of Institutional Advancement charged with cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors to support Concordia.  This position holds a key role in securing significant gifts that directly impacts the University's ability to achieve its goals and carry out its mission. The individual will work directly with prospects, friends and leaders of the University to identify, qualify, solicit and steward major gifts (current and deferred).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three or more years of relevant experience within the areas of cultivation, solicitation and closing sales or fundraising.
  • Job experience relevant to consultative sales involving face-to-face solicitations.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of deferred gifts instruments and estate planning preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of software applications including Microsoft applications, database management, spreadsheets, report generation and word processing required.
  • English and grammar proficiency.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising or sales with at least one year focused on major gifts or large accounts.
  • Effectiveness and comfort in dealing with high-level donor prospects including the skills to articulate campus priorities and connect these priorities to the interest of the prospect.
  • Dedication to enhance professional skills and competencies through attendance at professional conferences, workshops and institutional advancement sponsored educational activities.
  • Willingness to be a spokesperson for the Lutheran Christian mission and character of Concordia University.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter; ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks and a strong sense of urgency in achieving goals.
  • High degree of self-sufficiency.
  • Ability to plan, develop and implement effective strategies for engaging major gift donors.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships in a team environment.
  • Ability to interact with ease and on a regular basis with volunteers, donors, prospects and senior management personnel of the University.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively.
  • High degree of professionalism with the ability to positively represent the University.
  • Active listener with the ability to observe and adapt to the reactions of others with compassion.
  • Member of a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregation preferred.
  • Comfort and willingness to talk about personal faith and stewardship.
  • A passion for what Concordia University, Nebraska does and commitment to the university's mission and vision.

General Duties:

  • Manage a portfolio of assigned major gifts prospects and donors.
  • Develop and execute strategies for individual donors.
  • Continually assess the relationship between portfolio donors and the University.
  • Develop new markets for major gifts (current and deferred).
  • With the Director of Advancement, set annual personal performance goals and work to achieve those goals.
  • Personally visit and cultivate assigned prospects, solicit pledges, Concordia Fund gifts, major gifts and deferred/planned gifts.
  • Provide necessary documentation, stewardship and follow-up to donors and prospects, internal contacts and files.
  • Seek to expand the donor pool via qualifying and engaging new prospects.
  • Attend regular moves management and team meetings.
  • Assist the Vice President for Institutional Advancement to provide support services for the President, Provost, deans and volunteers in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts (current and deferred).
  • Aid the University by being a spokesperson and ambassador to its internal and external constituents.
  • Maintains files on donors and prospects, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Complete call reports and correspondence with prospects in a timely manner.
  • Plan and manage cultivation and stewardship events.
  • Work collaboratively with other advancement staff utilizing their expertise, donor-specific knowledge, travel plans, etc.
  • Work with other leadership and staff in the Office of Institutional Advancement to achieve the successful fulfillment of departmental goals, including any special campaign goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
