Concordia University, Nebraska, a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod institution, invites applicants for the full-time faculty position of Assistant Professor of Health and Human Performance beginning August 2018.

The Health and Human Performance Department mentors and leads students in the advancement of knowledge, abilities, and attitudes through the pursuit of a Christ-centered education in health and wellness. All students shall be given the opportunity for optimum spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development of the gifts God has given them through instruction and participation in various movement activities and through instruction in the areas of health and wellness.

Position Summary

The faculty member will teach courses in the areas of Health and Physical Education, including methods and curriculum design for the elementary, middle, and secondary levels. Additional introductory- and upper-level courses in the Health and Human Performance Department will be taught as assigned. The faculty member will advise undergraduate students, engage in student based high-impact learning experiences, participate in professional organizations, and serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

Qualifications 

  • Earned Doctorate in field(s) of Health Education and/or Physical Education from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Earned Masters in Health Education and/or Physical Education, with willingness to pursue a doctorate, considered.
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience in Health or Physical education at the K-12 level required.
  • Evidence of previous college or university teaching experience required.
  • Commitment to and evidence of excellence in classroom teaching.
  • Commitment to the mission of Lutheran Higher Education and Concordia University, Nebraska.

General Faculty Responsibilities

  • Teach courses assigned by the Dean of the College and/or Department Chair and approved by the Provost.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned, such as serving on accreditation review committees.
  • Assist with the advisement of students as called upon and maintain regular office hours sufficient to serve students. Keep accurate advisement records.
  • Work with the appropriate administrator when sponsoring and/or participating in student organizations and activities and other extra-curricular activities. Follow university guidelines, policies, and handbooks with regard to extra-curricular activities.*
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention activities.
  • Attend faculty, departmental, standing committee, and ad hoc committee meetings as called upon.
  • Actively pursue scholarly and academic research activities that are mutually beneficial.
  • Be available to work with colleagues as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and records as may be reasonably necessary for the proper performance and administration of duties.
  • Respond in a timely fashion to requests from various administrative and service offices regarding the progress of students in classes.
  • Participate in the assessment of student learning as needed by the university or individual department.
  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses during summer term as called upon.*
  • Notify the Dean of the College, Provost, and Department Chair in writing regarding all off campus travel.
  • Notify the Dean of the College and Department Chair regarding classes missed due to illness.
  • Develop a professional growth plan, including an annual plan for formative evaluation. Such plans are approved by the Dean of the College and the Provost and filed with the Office of Human Resources. 

*Particulars of these responsibilities are contracted individually unless otherwise specified.
